2008-2010 Subaru WRX / STI Aluminum Engine Under Tray Skid Plate

This aluminum skid plate/splash guard is a direct fit for your Subaru WRX or STI.  It replaces the OEM plastic splash guard panel which offers little protection and generally has many problems.  It offers built-in trap doors for both oil drain plug and oil filter.  Unlike many splash shields and skid plates on the market, this also offers ventilation as well as complete side brackets for additional support.   It comes with new hardware - especially important as this goes ALL THE WAY to your front bumper and doesn't stop at the radiator support - it will replace the stock push clips with speed nuts and bolts.  This will give your WRX or STI support on the front bumper while maintaining optimal air channeling under the vehicle with this aluminum splash shield.  Test off road in mud and various applications - this skid plate will keep your engine bay clean and protect your vital components.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

 FITS:
2008-2010 WRX
2008-2010 STI

Installation Hardware is Included with each aluminum splash shield - It will replace the plastic clips on the bumper with a more permanent solution using bolts and speed nuts

  • MADE OF .063 ALUMINUM - only slightly heavier than stock (by ~ 1 lb) but hard aluminum resistant to denting and splitting
  • LASER CUT - Precise cuts to fit stock mounting points * CLEARANCE - Clearance as good as OEM or better, but stronger which improves airflow
  • RIGIDITY - Offers better protection while strengthening bumper support for better stability at high speeds
  • 3 PIECE DESIGN - Won't bend the whole thing if you hit a curb, and can replace only the front piece. Easier to work on your engine.
  • OIL DOOR - The OEM shroud offers little access to the filter. This built in oil door is accessible by removing 2 simple bolts.
  • VENTED DESIGN - Helps to aid with air flow and heat removal
  • POWDER COATED OPTION - OPTIONAL Black powder coated finish for extra durability.

    Great Product!

Posted by Martinez on Mar 13th 2018

I purchased a 2010 STi wagon recently and it was missing the skid plate. This was by far the best priced and nicest looking product available online. I pulled the trigger on it, the package arrived quickly, all parts that were needed to install were included. The instruction weren't the best but the instructions on the website are much better than the ones included in the package. It's pretty easy to install & it looks great! I would definitely recommend purchasing this product!

    Incredible quality

Easily the nicest thing on my Subaru! I got this in the mail and it was way nicer than I could have expected. Side note, I bought this for my 2009 base 2.5l Impreza hatchback. Zero fitment issues. looks great, fits better, and the doors for drain plug and oil filter still line up perfectly on my car. Wouldn't recommend anything else, this is the one you need to get. Only issue I found was that the online instructions are not as intuitive as you might hope. My only hiccup was attaching the supports to the frame rails, at the ground wire bolt. There are 2 ground wires pretty close to each other, and you might not know which to use if you're mechanically uninclined like I am. Nonetheless it was installed in less than 20 minutes. Again, it's so nice. If you're struggling to pull the trigger on it, just do it and you won't regret it.

    Great design and price!

There was clearly some thought placed into the design of this skid plate. Everything lined up great and was very easy to install even without referencing the install. The only thing to note is that like other reviewers I noticed that the rearmost bolt would have bent the metal if tightened all the way down, but thankfully I had some spacers on hand and trimmed one down to sit flush so it doesn't bend. It's light duty/ street appropriate and a huge improvement over the stock piece. Its easily removed, but thankfully the doors are very conveniently placed and sized for access to routine maintenance items. Overall I'm very happy I found this product!

A few minor design problems, but overall a good product.

Posted by Jake on Feb 11th 2017

The main piece bolts on with three 12 or 13mm bolts, while the bumper cover piece is held on by 5 10mm bolts, and the side supports are bolted to the main piece by 2 bolts, and the side supports are bolted to the frame by the ground wire going to the frame. Of the 3 large bolts, the rearmost bolt doesn't actually tighten until the aluminum skid plate is bending a bit. The frame makes a kind of an upside down W shape with a bolt hole in the middle, and the skid plate spans the W. Bolt doesn't tighten until the plate is physically bending a bit, otherwise I'm afraid the bolt may fall out. The plate is not conformed to that frame piece, but it stays on fine once tightened down. Same general issue with the front 2 bolts. Even so, the plate is of good quality and comes with all necessary hardware. Definitely worth the price.

Fits 2008 Impreza Outback Sport. Sounds incredible.

Posted by Unknown on Jan 28th 2017

I own a 2008 Impreza Outback Sport. After referencing a few Subaru mechanics and measuring a coworkers WRX, I determined this would fit my non-turbo vehicle. In theory it fits all Impreza of that generation. The oil filter and plug are in the same spot on the 2.5L engine. I needed to replace all my missing splash shields and bought this to give the car better protection and have more fun in the snow and on gravel roads. Install was fast, downloaded the installation PDF and it mounted quickly. Make sure you have a lift or ramps, it would be impossible without getting the car off the ground. It fits perfect. It looks great despite being hidden under the low ground clearance car. The car sounds incredible. Imagine finishing a sub-woofer with a solid bottom. That boxer engine sounds deep and is really throaty. Note I was missing all my plastic splash shields, but I no longer have a hollow engine bay noise. On the highway the car is really quiet, now I only hear my roof rack whistling. I don't know if it is psychological, but the car feels more aerodynamic. I haven't driven the car enough to determine the full effects on gas mileage, but I will say the MPG ticker on my dash was climbing up on my short highway drive to work. I highly recommend TBW. These guys are awesome and make a great product. The shipping was really fast. The Skid Plate mounting to the front bumper makes the whole front end more solid. Thank you TBW!

    Pretty good

Figment of good but not perfect. The small piece that attaches directly to the front grill area doesn't quite reach the bolt holes under the radiator without some encouragement. But once installed, it's very secure. The tray itself fit very well. Much more solid that the stock plastic tray. I'm very happy for the price paid. Especially now that I won't have to drop the tray to change the oil

    Lightweight, easy install, one problem.

Posted by Marek on Mar 20th 2016

Compared to other skids, I like that it's lightweight, easy to install (four piece design + excellent fitment), and extends all the way to the bumper. Also, ventilated design helped lower engine temp. a bit. It cleared my aftermarket Perrin headers without any adjustments. The only thing I don't like is that front oxygen sensor and part of the headers where it's attached are exposed to the right wheel well. I'll see how they are affected during heavy rain. During winter, however, this setup will certainly not work for me since fresh snow likes to build up around the wheel wells. I will have to come up with some creative solution or replace the skid with DRT one, which provides enough side protection (although this one is not ventilated, much more heavy, more difficult to work with during oil changes, and more expensive). The best solution (to which I'm actually leaning) would be to use DRT skid during winter and TBW one for the rest of the year. That is, however, pretty expensive solution.

    allmost

Update: needs about 1/4" more depth to clear my Tomei EQ length headers. made a few spacers so no problem anymore. also wished it would reach all the way to the front bumper to help support it since Subaru didn't support it very well from the factory. still its the best thing I've bought so far and the workmanship is first rate. wish I had gotten one sooner

    great construction

Posted by Jon Matsushige on Dec 3rd 2015

only way to support the front bumper on an 08 STI. wish there was a spacer for the rear center bolt and a longer bolt but that's about it. had an issue with the drain plug as the Killer B pad puts the drain plug in a slightly diferent location but otherwise perfect
